University Outreach

1) establish and build contacts at local B- Schools and Schools of management, with a person within the school that is responsible for outreach to industry / community. They all have such a person, that can then distribute LSC event invites to students and alumni.

Ask any contact that you have at the university. Whether a student, and Alumni, professor or staff member. Follow the thread, like any sales activity. Follow the lead. Go cold calling if you have to, as you're not "selling" anything. you're offering an opportunity for the students to network and build relationships with potential employers!

2) Ensure you reach out to these people as part of the usual marketing activity for your LSC for each event, preferably with more than 3 weeks notice, with follow up reminder 1 week prior to huge event. Encourage them to distribute the invitation to students studying relevant courses. Most schools have internal virtual notice boards, e-newsletters and other distribution mechanisms. Many use BlackBoard as their internal LMS.

Students want exposure to Lean Ideas. They want to hear what real businesses are doing. Students want to network and build relations with potential internships / jobs. This person is responsible for facilitating outreach. You're making their job easier by reaching out to them!

3) The invite for students should provide a "significant" discount for student tickets (maybe aim to have the student ticket price to be <25% of full price) but have a limited number of tickets. (Maybe less than 20% of the anticipated total attendance) This may require you to migrate to Eventbrite (as Meetup doesn't allow for tiered pricing). alumni don't need a discount.

4) although the invite can be a link to the event registration page, higher response can be expected if the it e-mail body itself has all the information (and graphics) within it, perhaps by using PDF of Apple Pagemaker (ensuring the links to registration are live). Such a document is easier for the staff to distribute to students and alumni, and may also simply be posted on their internal portal / websites.
