Starting a Lean Startup Circle Group in your area is simple!
There are no dues or requirements aside from a desire to discuss and share your experiences building companies with others. There are groups of 3,000 and groups of 10, size doesn't matter!
Why Organize a Group?
Running a Lean Startup meetup is a great way to meet amazing people around your area and abroad. There are Lean Startup meetups all over the world, so you'll have access to a great business network to help you in your own startup journey. Other benefits include:
- Help entrepreneurs in your area build great businesses
- Attending the global organizers meetup at SxSW in Austin, TX, USA
- A global support network and contacts for your network
- Meet great speakers and evangelists for the Lean Startup movement
Who runs Lean Startup Circle?
Your group is run by you!
The San Francisco Lean Startup Circle is run by Tristan Kromer and a small volunteer team that operates a number of digital worldwide assets which can be used by local groups. While Eric Ries allows the use of the Lean Startup trademark, often speaks at meetups free of charge, and publicly supports the groups, he is not involved in the management or make decisions for any of the groups.
Global Support
The San Francisco Lean Startup Circle operates a number of assets which can be used to benefit the global community. This includes:
- Branding
- We use the local funds from the San Francisco meetup to pay for design and branding for the global groups.
- Social Media
- Global Discussion Group for Organizers
- This is the best place to ask questions about best practices and promoting your group.
- Global Discussion Group for Members
- This is a forum for members to discuss specific Lean Startup issues and get practical advice
- URL hosting
- This wiki and this guide
If there's something you think we could be providing but are not, just ask!
Is there a Business Model?
As meetup groups are organized independently, the business models vary by group and many are simply non-profit. Some organizers do charge membership dues, fees at events, etc. You are free to create whatever model makes sense to you. This might include:
- Charging event fees;
- Charging membership dues;
- Sponsorship;
- Advertising;
- Lead generation for a for-profit company;
- etc.
There are currently no requirements or global dues for the organization and there are no plans to change that in the foreseeable future. However, there is some debate as to how to improve the global assets and how to support the cash requirements.
Ok? Let's get started!
